Community Leader Training: Classism
March 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT
IndivisibleCLE brings you Dimensions of Isms (Sunny Matthews and Ginger Bakos) to present the second in a 3-part series on Racism, Sexism and Classism.
Work hard. Get ahead. Not so fast.
It takes more than just a job to escape poverty in the US.
Nowhere in the US can someone working full time at a minimum wage job afford a two bedroom apartment.
In fact, on average in the US, you would need to make over $19/hr to afford rent, and that is 2.5 times the current minimum wage.
Most Americans don’t work minimum wage jobs, though, so it’s no problem, right? Actually, the average American worker makes just a hair over $15. Which means the average American, can’t afford housing… now tack on, child care, lights, groceries, gasoline, etc., and just living past one pay check seems like an impossibility.
So why doesn’t it change?
Join other grass roots community leaders as we come together to be a part of the conversation that leads to greater understanding and affirming the humanity in us all.
Grass roots leaders have a unique connection to our local communities as well as a responsibility to educate themselves in order to be as effective and inclusive as possible while doing no harm.
