May 18, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm EDT

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. -Chinese Proverb

YOU can help increase canopy cover and reduce runoff all while beautifying your yard and your neighborhood – all by planting a tree!

Tri – C East Plant Science & Landscape Technology Program, Davey Tree and Cuyahoga SWCD are teaming up to teach you how to love your trees. Proper planting and care are essential for young trees to survive and thrive. At this workshop, participants will learn the basics of tree planting and care, including a hands-on tree planting demonstration. An overview of county-wide tree canopy restoration efforts will also be presented.

The $10 registration fee includes one 1.3 Qt. native tree and take-home instructions. Trees are available for a variety of soil and sun/shade conditions – please see tree descriptions below.

Trees are supplied by Riverside Native Trees in Delaware, OH.

To register online, select your tree type below and pay online by credit card.

To register by phone, call Patrick Connolly at 216-524-6580 x1000 and mail a check, payable to Cuyahoga SWCD to: Cuyahoga SWCD, 3311 Perkins Ave., Suite 100, Cleveland, OH 44114. If you are paying by check, you must call to register.

The following native tree species are available through this program:

Bitternut Hickory: prefers deep, moist soils that range from poorly drained to well-drained, but is often found in drier conditions. It tolerates shade in its youth, but needs full sun at maturity and is adaptable to acidic, neutral, or alkaline pH soils.

Kentucky Coffeetree: prefers deep, moist, alkaline soils, but thrives almost anywhere it is planted, except for permanently wet soils. It grows in full sun to partial sun.
