History & Mission

WISH Cleveland is northeast Ohio’s the first local news source for changemakers, social justice seekers and idealists. Through honest reporting and sincere, thought-provoking essays, we connect our readers with people and organizations that are a force for good in greater Cleveland. Based on the belief that together we can do more than each of us can do alone, our citywide giving campaign, #GivingTuesdayCLE is Cleveland’s first equity-based citywide day of giving. We’re on a mission to change the fundraising game for small to mid-sized organizations.

In December 2015, a late-night leap of faith inspired Pam Turos, a freelance writer and former social worker, to submit an idea to the Cleveland Leadership Center’s Accelerate: Citizen’s Make Change pitch competition. She wanted to create a place online where Clevelanders could find out about all of the inspiring people and organizations who are doing amazing work in our community. As one of five finalists, she was awarded a $2000 Economic Development start-up grant and launched The Good Cause Blog (now WISH Cleveland) in June of 2016.

At WISH Cleveland, we believe that shared stories and honest conversations have the power to change lives. Our mission is to use storytelling as a force for good in our community.

Check out the video below of Pam’s winning pitch-presentation, where she describes the first time she used social media and storytelling to raise funds for a cause that was important to her, The Homeless Stand Down sponsored by HandsOn Northeast Ohio.
