Norma Herr Women’s Center Accepting Donations for Women Experiencing Homelessness

Given these unprecedented times, when the majority of us are staying home for the health and safety of our communities, it’s especially crucial that we support organizations that serve individuals who are most in need. Fortunately, even from our homes, we can provide that support. Here’s how to help one such organization.

The YWCA of Greater Cleveland’s Norma Herr Women’s Center, the largest low-barrier shelter for adult women in Cuyahoga County, is requesting wish list items, sponsored meals, and financial donations to benefit the nearly 200 women they serve who are experiencing homelessness.

Ship or Donate Wish List Items
Currently, the most needed items on the Center’s wish list include:

  • disinfecting surface wipes
  • 70% or greater alcohol content hand sanitizer (desktop or counter-size preferred)
  • sanitary wipes
  • lotion (full-size bottles preferred instead of trial-size, hotel-size or travel-size)
  • combination or keyed padlocks for lockers
  • brand new women’s underwear (all adult sizes)
  • brand new emergency changes of pants like jogging pants, scrub bottoms or basketball shorts (all adult sizes)
  • adult coloring books and smaller individual packs of crayons
  • word searches
  • Journals/notebooks and pens

For the Norma Herr Center’s full wish list, please visit Donations can be dropped off from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. daily at the following:

Norma Herr Women’s Center
2227 Payne Ave.
Cleveland, OH 44114

For drop-off donations, loose items in shopping bags or packed in small boxes are requested rather than bundled as kits. Most guests of the shelter do not need everything in a packaged kit at the same time. The Center does not have an elevator, so please keep donations light or small enough to carry in a narrow stairwell.

If you prefer to ship items, you can use the Center’s Amazon Wish List.

Sponsor a Meal or Celebration
You can also provide support by assisting with the cost of a lunch or dinner one weekend ($1,000 a meal). Additionally, the Center wants to continue their monthly tradition of celebrating their guests’ birthdays. You can sponsor the cost of 200 cupcakes and 6 gallons of ice cream for a monthly celebration ($200). To sponsor a meal or monthly birthday celebration, contact Rachel Napolitano, Services Coordinator, at

Provide Financial Support
A monetary donation of any amount is always appreciated. YWCA staff work very hard to provide a safe, positive, empowering environment for their guests, and contributions of any size allow them to do that. If you’re interested in making a donation, contact Napolitano at

“On behalf of our guests at the Norma Herr Women’s Center and the YWCA staff, we are so grateful for the community’s generosity during these challenging times,” Napolitano says. “Together, we know we can continue to meet the essential needs our women deserve.”
