The Vineyards of Chateau Hough: Grapes of Prosperity

Situated at the intersection of East 66th and Hough Avenues, just outside of downtown Cleveland, there are thirteen perfectly manicured rows of grapes and one row of blackberries. In about a month they will be ripe for harvest, just in time for guests to enjoy their fragrance and color at the first annual Vineyards of Chateau Hough Fundraiser.

Aside from their future economic value, these grapes are a source of pride and connection for the community in which they grow. Planted and maintained by staff hired from the neighboring Oriana House (a halfway house, located about a half mile away), this vineyard is a symbol of the resiliency and growth that founder and Neighborhood Solutions’ Executive Director, Mansfield Frazier, hopes to foster in his neighborhood.

Through programs like Reimagining Cleveland, once empty lots are finding new life and citizen-driven initiatives are taking root all over Cleveland, one big idea at a time.

The Neighborhood Solutions’ August 9th fundraiser, Stabilizing At-Risk Youth With Jobs, will feature the music of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and the talents of local artists in partnership with the Cleveland Museum of Art. Tickets can be purchased here.  If you can’t attend the event, you can still ask Mansfield Frazier for a personal tour. He is a proud wine-maker, a great story teller and a gracious host.
